The most underrated page on your website (and what you're getting wrong)

"About us": the most underrated page on your website

Why your “About us” page matters more than you think

Everyone who visits your website silently asks themselves the same questions:

  • Can they solve my challenge
  • Can I trust them?
  • Have they done this successfully before?

And instead of going through your whole website, visitors often look first at the page where they expect a quick answer to those three questions: your “About us” page. Some business owners still think: “My products or services speak for themselves.” But that's not true, not anymore. Without a strong human connection, visitors drop off faster. They click away. They choose a competitor who does give them the feeling: “These are the people I want to work with.”

Where do companies go wrong?

Most “About us” pages are full of empty words, corporate jargon or vague lines like:

  • “Our unique solutions enable organizations to…” (What does that actually mean?)
  • “We've had 20 years of experience in the sector…” (Great. But what exactly have you done?)
  • “We put our clients first at every moment.” (Everyone says that. Show me proof!)

They don't really tell a reader who you are, what you stand for or why they should listen to you. They fall into typical “corporate speak”.

A strong “About us” page:

💪🏻 makes a strong first impression: visitors immediately sense whether they trust you.
📈 increases conversion: people want to do business with those they trust.
🎯 strengthens your brand positioning: you attract clients who genuinely fit — and put off those who don't

How do you build a strong “About us” page?

These 5 practical tips give you a head start:

1. Tell your real story

Authenticity is key. Explain why you started, what challenges you faced along the way and what your ambition is. People love stories they recognize themselves in. Use real photos of yourself, your team and your work environment.

2. Let your personality show

Dare to be yourself. Write the way you speak and let your own tone and style come through in the text. That creates a natural connection, even before any personal contact has happened.

3. Focus on the client, not just yourself

Even though it's about you, it ultimately comes down to what you can do for your client. Link back to their challenges and show how your experience or vision helps them move forward.

4. Be concrete about your expertise and successes

Avoid vague terms like “market leader” or “passion for the craft”. Show real results instead: successes, practical examples and testimonials. Concrete proof builds trust much faster.

5. Keep it clear and scannable

People scan websites. So use short, clear paragraphs, headings and, where useful, bullet points. Keep it concise and engaging. Less is often more.
