Digital marketer in Mechelen
You make it click. On every level.
More reach. More leads. More impact. Fine ambitions. But for whom? Through which channels? With what message? And maybe even more important: what happens after someone clicks? Or when nobody does?
At Umbau, we’re looking for a digital marketer who asks exactly those questions and then gets to work on the answers. Someone who makes channels work together, sets up campaigns and uses results to make better choices. You love diving into a campaign. But just as much into a conversation with the client. Because leads don’t start in Ads Manager. They start with the question of what the client actually wants to achieve.

Umbau, you say?
Umbau is a communications agency in Mechelen, Belgium. We help businesses and public authorities make complex stories clear to the people they want to reach. With strategy, content, campaigns and extra expertise where needed.
Our name literally means ‘rebuild’. We build on what’s there and improve what can be better. Simplify complexity. Digitally too: a clear message, in the right place, for the right people, with a logical next step. Sounds simple. It isn’t. That’s exactly what makes the work so interesting.
What you’ll actually do
You translate marketing goals into a concrete digital approach and help carry it out. You work alongside strategists, creatives and designers. But you’re not tucked away behind a dashboard. You take responsibility for the digital work. As an expert. And as a sparring partner.
- You sit at the table with the client. You listen, ask follow-up questions and figure out what’s really needed. Sometimes you get a sharp briefing. Sometimes you get “we want to do something with LinkedIn”. You can work with both. Just not in the same way.
- You help shape the digital approach. You make well-founded choices on audiences, channels, budgets and KPIs. “Because we’re not doing anything there yet” doesn’t count as a channel strategy here.
- You set up campaigns and fine-tune them. You work hands-on in the tools you master. You build campaigns, track results and optimise. Where extra expertise is needed, you bring in colleagues.
- You bring message and channel together. Good targeting won’t save a bad message. So you think along about content, formats and conversion. You write clear briefings for copy and visuals and, where needed, draw up a copy sheet yourself. Not because you’re dying to become a copywriter. But because you know what that ad needs to do.
- You make all the parts work together. Ads, social content, landing pages, email and automation need to connect logically. After all, a click isn’t a customer yet. Neither is a nice CTR, by the way.
- You make results understandable. You look beyond isolated figures and check whether we’re measuring what matters. Then you join us at the client’s to explain what we see, what it means and what we’re going to do about it. Without a 48-slide deck in which chart 37 says the same thing as chart 12.
- You keep improving. You test, learn and adjust. You approach new channels, tools and AI applications with curiosity and common sense. An extra login isn’t innovation in itself.
You’re an expert. Beyond the dashboard too.
We’re not looking for someone who executes and then waits for somebody else to explain the results to the client. You dare to take a seat at the table. To pick up a briefing. To dig deeper when something isn’t clear. To explain why you choose channel A and not channel B. And to look at the results together. You don’t need to be a slick presenter for that. In fact, we’d rather you weren’t. We’re looking for someone who knows their craft and can make it understandable for others. Including people who don’t live inside an ad account every day.
What you bring
- You’ve built up mid-level experience in digital marketing, on the agency or client side. You’ve run campaigns yourself, analysed the results and adjusted course based on them.
- You understand how SEA, SEO, social advertising, content, email marketing, automation and analytics fit together. And GEO and the new ChatGPT ads get you properly excited.
- You don’t have to be a specialist in everything. But in a number of disciplines you have enough depth to work independently. In the others, you figure it out and keep learning.
- You can translate a marketing goal into a campaign plan, a budget split and meaningful metrics.
- You combine a feel for message and audience with a critical eye for numbers. Because “the campaign is doing well” only interests us once it’s clear what ‘well’ means.
- You communicate with ease. Not just in a report, but also in a briefing, workshop or client meeting. If you can do that in French too, you earn bonus points.
- You dare to show your expertise. You explain choices clearly, listen to feedback and can take a client along in your reasoning without turning every meeting into a digital marketing masterclass.
- And if you see that something isn’t working? You say so. Preferably before the media budget decides that for you.
We don’t expect a walking manual of the entire internet. We do expect expertise and curiosity.
And what we offer in return
Digital challenges with substance. You work for organisations and public authorities with complex stories, diverse audiences and goals that go beyond “we need to post something”. Audiences like that rarely let themselves be targeted in three clicks.
You help shape the approach and carry it out. You see what your work delivers, discuss it with the client and use those insights to make the next step better.
In our compact team, you work directly with experienced colleagues. You get room to test ideas, explore new possibilities and further strengthen our digital practice.
No ping-pong table, no vague promises. What you do get: a fair salary in line with your experience, a company car, meal vouchers, a laptop, hospitalisation insurance, a mobile phone subscription and the right tools to do your job well. You work from Mechelen, with room for hybrid working and common sense in planning.
Fancy helping us rebuild complexity?
Please don’t send us a standard cover letter saying you’re “passionate about marketing”. Instead, tell us briefly what digital experience you bring and why it’s relevant to the clients Umbau works for.
Email your CV to bernard.deruyver@umbau.be and we’ll meet soon.
